Juan Carlos Holgado

Biography

Juan Carlos Holgado is a four-time Olympian (athlete in 1988 and 1992, coach in 1996 and 2000), who became an Olympic team gold medallist at Barcelona 1992. 

He holds a Master degree in Management & Administration of Sport and a University Degree in Physical Education & Sports Science. National Team Head coach for Spain from 1995 to 2001, when he created the national detection program and implemented the coaches education system. As a result of the success of both programs and performance of the Spanish archers and coaches in this period, his was invited to run seminars and workshops all around the World, assisting countries and archery federations in its growth. In 2003 Juan Carlos moved to Athens to work for the Organizing Committee of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, as its Technical Operations Manager for Archery.

He has been officially involved in World Archery since 1999, as the Chairman of its Coaches Committee. In this time he collaborated in the creation of the 1st WA coaching Manual level 1 and the 1st international coaches seminar in Madrid 2000. In 2004, after Athens 2004, he joined the International Federation as its Events Director, working in the creation of the World Cups and upgrading the main Archery events to the top-level standard its have nowadays. During this period he also acted as the WA Technical Delegate at the Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Juan Carlos has over three decades of experience in managing international events, developing archery projects and running seminars that have helped to create and grow archery around the World. He has actively assisted more than 30 Countries over the World, and lectured and participated in more than 600 seminars-workshops related to archery development, coaching systems, leadership and events organization. He is also collaborating in FISU (World Universityx Spoort Federaiton) as it Technical Committee Chair for archers, as well as is members of the ASDEG working group focused in development in ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic International Federations).
