Luka Gjurin

Biography

Luka Gjurin is a former competitive archer and now full time archery coach from Kamnik, Slovenia. He has a bachelor degree in Physical Education and is a certified World Archery level 3 coach.  

He was born in 1996 and fell in love with archery at the age of 10 in Kamnik Archery Club. It quickly became obvious that archery is going to be his life long passion. After 12 years of competitive carer, where he made some notable results in the cadet and junior category both on national and international level, he found that a coaching career suits him better than the one of an athlete. 

Luka started coaching in 2014, when he was 17 years old. He was assistant coach in his club in Kamnik and finished Slovenian coaching course level 1 in 2015 and level 2 in 2017. Knowing that he wanted to pursue a career of a professional coach, he went to study sports on University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Sports, where he made a bachelor degree in Physical Education in 2019.  

A few months after his graduation, Luka was granted a scholarship for Olympic Solidarity continued coaching education at World Archery Excellence Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland. There he finished all three levels of World Archery Coaches Courses and attended numerous seminars, including one of coach Kim Hyung Tak. 

Luka is now a full time coach, proficient in Olympic recurve. He works for Archers Association of Slovenia where one of his main occupations is assistant coach and video analyst of Slovenian National team. In addition he is in charge of School program and School competitions program, which includes Youth Archery centers, and runs seminars for the Slovenian Archery Coaches Committee. 

In his afternoons, Luka works in Kamnik Archery Club, where he is coaching two groups of competitive youth archers and is in charge of Archery Beginners course and Archery Presentations for schools and camps.
